James Ewell Ancestors and Descendants by Maude L. Hays
1966
"Peleg Ewell was born Sep 30, 1784 at Scituate, Mass. He came to
MIddlebury in 1811 and built his home NW of Wyoming village in 1812
and 1813. In 1817 he went to Mich. He received a land grant from
President Andrew Jackson dated Jan 6, 1831. In that spring he built
his house there at Utica. It was patterned after the Wyoming house and
carpenters and masons went from Middlebury to build it.
The first all-electric school in SE Mich was built on land once owned
by Peleg and is named Ewell Elementary School.
Peleg married Jan 16, 1808 Clarissa Curtis dau of Edmund and Martha
(Wilson)"
